| Bernd Jung Passed Away: June 25, 1964 *Bernd came from Germany to Portage Jr. Hi. in the 8th or 9th grade. He barely knew English. He was in my German class in the Hi School and Herr Kurth said he barely knew German. Bernd was a football player and a wrestler. He was killed when a gasoline truck rammed the back of his truck on a highway construction crew in '63 or '64. (His truck warned traffic to change lanes). Although I never knew him very well, he was one of those people I wish I did. In some ways, it is just as well, I would have been inconsolable to lose a peer so young in life. I still miss Craig Wallet - what a positive and fun guy. Larry Hall *Bernie came to America in 1954 with his mother, Erna. His sister was married to an American officer and already here in Wadsworth. I met Bernie in 12th grade the last day of school. We went to Akron U. together and were like brothers for those two years. I miss him today. His picture is in my desk drawer even now. I lived with his mother for some time after his death, as she had no one with her. Bernie loved life and wanted to be an Army officer. He wrestled even in college, taking fourth place at state his sophomore year even with a broken ankle. He was working on SR21 for the state when he was killed by an empty gas truck with the driver asleep at the wheel. He survived pneumonia at 13 months in the Black Forest only to die at 21 in Copley. He is missed. Steve Kyer, '62 *Bernd und ich hatten denselben Vater. Ich wurde
1967 geboren, Bernd verunglückte 1964. Schde,
das wir uns nicht begegnet sind.
