Alan was the brother of Evelyn Milhoan (Class of 74) and Tom Scott (Class of 79) He was the son of Floyd and Willadean Scott. He grew up in the north end of Barberton, went to Memorial Elementary and Portage Junior High. He was on the swim team, worked at the Natatorium and was known by the children as Uncle Al. He went on to work at First National Bank of Akron (now known as First Merit) and eventually moved to North Carolina with his wife (Sherri) and two boys (Chris and Justin). As he was driving with his family to Ohio, he was lit head-on by a semi-tractor trailer truck and was killed instantly. His family survived and now live in Ohio.
